A judge put Glenville back in the football playoffs, and the OHSAA plans to appeal

If you follow high school football, the Glenville case isn't settled. Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Andrew Santoli ruled Tuesday that the acted arbitrarily when it removed the Tarblooders from the Division III playoffs before finishing its investigation. The OHSAA intends to appeal portions of the ruling. University School skipped Saturday's rescheduled game with Glenville.

Glenville's playoff fight moved from removal to a ruling in five days

  1. Oct. 29 removes Glenville from the Division III, Region 9 playoffs.
  2. Oct. 30Judge Santoli grants a temporary restraining order.
  3. Oct. 31University School doesn't show for the rescheduled game; Glenville takes the field.
  4. Nov. 2A five-hour hearing ends without a ruling.
  5. Nov. 3Santoli rules the removal was arbitrary.
  6. Nov. 4OHSAA says it will release more on Salem's opponent.
  • Appeal: OHSAA plans one in Cleveland, per the Tribune Chronicle
  • Salem's opponent: OHSAA says details come Wednesday
  • Friday: Salem is supposed to host at Sebo Stadium
  • OHSAA says 63 of 64 roster players don't attend Glenville

Santoli wrote that the OHSAA could reschedule the Glenville-University School game, declare a forfeit, or find another fix. He also said the court isn't deciding who gets to play: "It is beyond the scope of this Court's authority to order that one team be entered into the Playoffs over another," he wrote. Glenville attorney Stanley Jackson said, "We look forward to Glenville being able to live out their hard work on the football field."
